Hard to tell with this photo. Not a lot of yellow so that means either kernel processing was good or there wasn’t a lot of grain. As you indicated in a previous post, these days we might want to not process quite this long, maybe 19 mm or a bit less is more ideal. Roger Olson once said that ideally there would be very few 3 dimensional pieces with shredlage (although this is not physically possible) it is a good visual thought to have in mind.

I will get a sample results soon. Processing was very good at 1 mm and 34% DM. I don’t usually like 24 mm but this is basically a all corn silage diet. The dairyman said it is working for him.

Due to all the rain, we seem to have corn where the ear says it is ready to chop and the plant is still wet. A very typical situation that I often times see in Florida. My recommendation is to wait for the plant to dry but make sure the processing is good. However, these plants will dry down fast once the rain stops to there is a huge risk of chopping dry material. A week of hot and dry will let the plants catch up to the ears and then it will too late.

Good luck,
